That's not an excuse to cheat on her. He is just saying that so he comes out of it looking a kind person not the rat he really is.

I wouldn't like to say as he sued the last person (well, magazine) who said it. All I will say is that when I saw him perform at Nightingale he held my hand for a suspiciously long time...

He looks ok now but I was so surprised he was married with kids as i was sure he was gay and just kept his private life quiet.

You can be married with kids and still be gay. I've known 2 people who were married and had kids and came out in their 40's.
