Climate change
« on: February 02, 2007, 07:25:36 pm »

After six years of research, scientists predict the average world
temperature will rise by about three degrees by the end of the century
- with potentially devastating consequences for melting icecaps and
rising sea levels.

The report, which makes the strongest causal
link so far between human behaviour and global warming, was described
by the minister as a "call to action".

Speaking during a visit to
Currie Community High School in Edinburgh, Mr Miliband said: "I think
this report from 2,000-2,500 scientists means that the debate about
climate change is now over.

"The climate is changing, it's dangerous, and if we don't change the
way in which we live and work, we do threaten catastrophic consequences
through the course of the century. I think it means greater danger from
floods, greater danger from freak weather events we had a couple of
weeks ago. It also means a global community that is more riven by
insecurity and conflict - some of the consequences that come from a
lack of resources."

well that was Money well spent!

we alreadly know that, but still No mention of cows!

also:
Ice Expands!
90% of all ice brug area underwater

SO Ice melt into water = LESS SPACE = theory low sea level!

If we left the cows alone and all did our little bit to help, we could tackle global warming. Here's what we can do:

Use low energy light bulbs

Turn lights off when not in use

Don'' leave TVs etc on standby

Recycle as much as you can

Re-use carrier bags (this is something I have to work on)

Try to run a diesel vehicle - these can more easily be adapted to run on friendly fuel (you can actually run these on vegetable oil already but it's illegal)

Also buy locally sourced produce, as when you buy things from the supermarket that have travelled from the other side of the world, you can bet there were a lot of carbon emissions needed to get it there. Things like fruit and vegetables particularly.

Yes, that's a great idea. Why should we eat plums from Spain in the summer when our own fruit is available?  Why buy a lettuce that has travelled fifty miles to a depot and another fifty miles to the shop if you can buy one from a market garden five miles away?

I try and do all these things but I think more drastic action is needed.  For a start, I think two cars per household should be the limit.  And more large companies should use minibuses to transport their employees so there aren't so many cars on the road containing one person.

I read somewhere that if every household in the UK turned of all lights and power they aren't using, several less power stations would need to be built.

The problem is getting the message across to people - many don't care and many are oblivious to the problem.

Perhaps the answer is to hit people where it hurts - financially.

There is nothing we can do, it's way, way too late.  The amount of carbon emissions from the USA, India and China will far outweigh any measures we can take to lower the effects.  However, we are probably warming up naturally anyway and man is just making it a bit worse.  Who's going to Lincoln by the Sea in 2020?bounty hunter39116.4503819444
