So this Welsh bloke is looking at photos of children being abused and gets a suspended sentence because the Home Secretary has told judges that only the most dangerous offenders should be imprisoned.  Erm, excuse me, a paedophile looking at these images is a VERY dangerous offender.  Is it just me or does anyone else think this country is run by a bunch of useless t**sers?

The prisons are overcrowded, we need to build more.

I don't agree with paying taxes to keep prisoners locked away in cells with tv's, dvd players, gyms and stuff that honest decent people outside don't have.  I say catch someone thieving and chop their hands off, catch a rapist and tattoo rapist across his forehead. This would be more of a deterent. Too many people who have nothing on the outside are happy enough to re offend so they can go back to their safe life of a roof over their heads and food rather than face having to work to pay bills.

They were discussing Question Time last night and there was some suggestion that the judge involved had deliberately let this man go free to make a point. If that is true he should be deeply ashamed of himself. Isn't the safety of children more important than him throwing a strop about a new ruling?
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

When the government was elected it promised to be "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime" and it seems their promise has been carried out but they forgot to build enough prisons to house these criminals!

I believe in a short, sharp, harsh shock. A short but hard prison sentence, along with re-training and counselling should put most people back on the right path. Persistent offenders should get longer, tougher sentences and be made to do some sort of useful work.

Sex offenders should ALWAYS be locked up.  As I understand it though, this chap had downloaded child porn but was not convicted of any assaults.

In cases like this they should be tagged and monitored.

I would like to echo the sentiments of Loulou and Smurfy.

Oldspice, tagging and monitoring is not enough.  A child had to be abused to make the images that this bloke had downloaded.  As far as I'm concerned looking at the stuff is child abuse by proxy.  This man should have been looked up for several years - he is a danger to children.  There is every probability that at some point this man will feel that the pictures are not enough and find a child.  If they cannot help these urges then they either need to be locked up for life or have their penis removed.  God knows why there are men like this.

I didn't suggest he should be tagged. That was Kev. I said sex offenders should ALWAYS be jailed.

Well if they're not going to imprison him the least they can do is tag and monitor him.
