Day before wedding girl sees her boy blow a kiss to another girl. Girl raids other girl's spooky house (where she lives with her doctor father) and discovers other girl is actually a puppet. Boy arrives at house to return something to other girl, father drugs boy and steals his energy. Father uses boy's energy to bring puppet girl to life, but what he thinks is puppet girl is actually other girl (boy's fiancee). Girl wakes boy up and they marry. Doctor is annoyed but girl's family pay him compensation.

Personally I love the music to Coppelia, the story is far fetched but then so are most. Have you got tickets to see it Lou? Whether it is any good depends on whether you like such stories and what company you are watching perform it!

Thanks for that Cherry. I have just booked the tickets online after reading your post. It's at Sunderland Empire and performed by Ellen Kent International whoever they are. I went to quite a few ballets last year and enjoyed the music but I don't always follow the story. Anyway my mam will enjoy it and it is part of her birthday present . She said she wanted to go somewhere different for her birthday meal so I booked flights to Brussels. Can't get much different than that.

I hope your mam enjoys the ballet and the trip to Brussels, Lou. Does she speak French?

Coppelia is a lovely ballet and the music is just beautiful.

I think your mum is a very lucky lady and you must be very lucky too (she must be a great mum for you to want to spoil her like this).

I hope you both have a wonderful time.

No. Is this for Brussels or the ballet? Last time I went to Belgium everyone spoke English.

I have been to various places in Belgium where indeed English is spoken widely  only in Brussels they seemed a bit particular about speaking French. It's just my experience anyway maybe I just went to the odd places

Don't they speak Belgian in Brussels? I'm not being funny - I really want to know!

The official language of Belgium is Flemish (a local variant of Dutch), which is spoken by 60% of the population. The other main languages spoken in Belgium are French (this is the main language spoken in Brussels) and then German.

So says the BBC Education site, and I wouldn't dream of arguing with the BBC!

Hi Lou,  this is coming to my theatre too.  Ellen Kent is a leading ballet and opera producer, the shows are of high quality.  It is a Russian production, touring with Swan Lake, and has a live orchestra.

Thanks Velvet.

I knew about the Flemish but thought they spoke a sort of Belgian French in Brussels.

When I go to France I find French people are reluctant to help you along with your French and get very sniffy about mis-pronounciation.

However, Spanish people help you, encourage you and if you're that bad will gladly speak in English to you if they speak it themselves.

Yep everyone spoke Flemish, some spoke French, very few spoke any English. The black people were all from the congo and spoke French. We went to a hotel called Le Metropole for lunch and the menu was in French and the waiter spoke no english so I had a chicken concoction and my mam had fish. Both meals were horrible and what is their fascination with mayonnaise on everything? I do feel quite insulted that just because I am English the waiter sticks a bottle of Heinz tomato sauce on our table. I looked around and we were the only ones to get it.

The woman on the table next to me had her dog with her ( a chihuahua thing). I've never seen a dog in a restaurant before. Seen so many chocolate shops I got bored. It was -1 degrees but bright. Seen European parliament and happily avoided the museum of instruments. Got a little lost and ended up in a street full of sex shops and places to watch strippers for 20 euros.
