Well wait till I've worked out how to move the forum into a faster database. To upgrade hosting to a more dedicated server is a huge expense (and not a one off cost either). Who knows maybe one day broadband to our homes will be good enough for me to host on my box at home

Has it sped up at all. I know the site was down for a little while, but I notice the timings (at the bottom of all the forum pages) have gone from about 6-16seconds to 1-3seconds.

Anyone else finding it better or is this just temporary?

Yeah, I'm looking at the numbers on our server here (got a machine to look on it instead of the new host) - and it rarely goes above a second to generate any of the forum pages.

Will continue to investigate and may move the site (again) after further testing.

a serve ( this is form My Ex computing tutor) is bacis a computer with only a Hard disk drive you can make one you self and change surpiler to get 8mg!

Mine is saying between 2 and 5 seconds for each page but it's actually slightly longer than that before it's fully loaded. Perhaps it's only the people on dial-up who are having major problems?

do you know:

Why didn't Chocadmin Just spend the money on buying a Extre space on the server at his UNI!

then it of stayed where it was and he would not have this problem

plus if he sent the money on the Extra space ( hard drive to hold this - you can now get unto 200GB! for about 50 -60! that's IS CHEAP!

and Alot space!

Hello,

Not a space issue or anything like that, just that the conditions of our educational connection mean hosting sites like this is a bit iffy (is it really only for educational purposes? and what happens when I want to run a competition etc.). Much better to use a commercial provider where far fewer limits exist.

If the site is still slow during the day tomorrow (and pipex haven't returned my request) - I'll move the site back to the server at work until I've tested everything on another provider.

What's really frustrating is that at this time of night all is working fine, so it must be other sites on the same server at pipex that are using up all the resources during the day.

I've had confirmation from Pipex that they have indeed got problems at the moment, and they expect all to be much better next week. So hang in there and hopefully things will get back to normal v.soon.
