I found this whole thing chilling. We don't have the right to take what God has given.  No matter what he did - and he was responsible for a lot of evil, vile acts - capital punishment is unacceptable.  The fact that the USA support the death penalty is outrageous.  God will take his vengeance if any is necessary, it is not for us take life.  Putting Saddam in prison for life would have been adequate.

i'm really not a supporter of the death penalty at all... i don 't think we have the right to take life and all that...

but i'm finding empathy impossible in this particular case. good riddance.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I suppose at least they didn't do it publically.  That would have been even more barbaric.

I don't agree with the death penalty but sometimes my emotions overcome me and I cry out for justice for the victims of crime.

Like Bounty, I found this a bit chilling as I think there are many such evil men/women in the world getting away with terrible crimes against humanity. I don't think America is particularly lilly-white for a start.

I don't think this will be the end of matters.

I am usually anti-death penalty, but I can't pretend I will be shedding any tears in this case. I will save those for the millions of innocents killed and tortured during his 'reign' and the servicemen killed rescuing Iraq from his tyranny. And as for God being the only judge, not all of us believe in him and would prefer to see justice in THIS world.

It would have been enough for me to know that it had been carried out.

I did not need to see the actions before hand and images of his body afterwards on the evening news.

I found that too much and switched over.

Is this just limited to human lives? I ask because we take a lot of things that 'God' has given.

I didn't enjoy seeing Saddam have the cloth and the noose put around his head and being told he refused the hood.

A good question. All life is sacred, but human life is especially sacresanct because we are told we were made in God's own image.  We must treat animals with respect and for those that we eat we must afford them the respect in death that we would in life.  I am seriously thinking of becoming a vegeterian because of the slaughterhouses.  As for plants - these are gift from God, eating fruit and vegetables is not the same as eating animals.

Although I'm not religious I do agree with this. Humans obviously come first but I believe all sentient creatures should be treated with respect - nothing justifies humans to allow them to suffer when it can be prevented.

I agree with this part too. It's the 'God's own image' bit that I'm struggling with.

I've always found this odd too - does it mean that God has female and male parts?

Man exists to observe the creation.  It is why we were here and it is important to God that we are the way we are.

i have mixed feelings..

i think it's easy to sit here and say i think this or i think that..as it wasn't my Father..Brother..Uncle..Mother etc that was taken from me by this man.

we all have our own beliefs and who is to say one is more right than the other..i don't know if i could be strong enough to forgive and let another human live that murdered a love one of mine..i hope i never have to make that choice..
