Christmas presents
« on: December 29, 2006, 01:54:34 am »

Who has taken unwanted presents back to the shops and exchanged for something they do want? I never take anything back. I usually put unwanted gifts on top of my wardrobe then give them out for birthdays.

This year I opened one of my presents on Christmas eve and it was  perfume that I already had a full bottle of so I wrapped it up for a friend and kept the present I had bought her.

Well, I only got presents from my immediate family (husband and kids) and they were mostly books, 2 DVDs and perfume so I was happy with those.

I don't think I could take something back and excange it, but I have in the past re-wrapped a present and given it to someone on the other side of the family - but not to a 'main' relative like my sister.

I would write a letter to the person who gave it me, something like this:

Dear ------

thankyou for your kind gift, however on this ocassion it was not appropriate.  I would be grateful if you could swap it for a Sarah Michelle Geller calendar or just give me the money instead.

Thanks

Bounty

i recycle unwanted gifts through the year for birthday presents or to put in the charity bags they leave on door step, at least that way they do some good to someone

It sounds silly, but I was actually hoping to get something I disliked from Next, as I want a bedcover from there - that why I could swap the gift for the cover. I got a top and a scarf from Next that I didn't like, so it worked out well.

Yep - it sounds silly!  Why not just ask for what you want in the first place or at least drop subtle hints?

I do that but my family are stubborn and never buy what I really want!

Did anyone get any socks this year?

Because it's a bit expensive if you add in the pillowcases. A £16.99 top from my Aunt and a £12.99 scarf from my Uncle adds up rather nicely to most of the cost.

I bought some nice bedding from Next on Christmas eve. I have always put new bedding on my bed on Christmas eve and I believed everyone did but now I find it seems to be a tradition I started and only I follow.
