Mars rebranding to Venus (for girls)
« on: October 31, 2006, 03:51:00 pm »
I am doing a piece of coursework for business and am planning on rebranding mars as Venus especially to target girls. It would be a limited edition bar that would sponsor breast cancer (the 'e' on Venus would be the breast cancer bow). The filling would be lighter and would be pink. The chocolate would possibly be white chocolate but am not sure if that would be too much. PLEASE can I have your thoughts on this asap! Thanks.

Don't fancy pink filling, too many e numbers for me. You could make the wrapper pink though maybe?

A strawberry or cherry mousse-like filling would be nice. I find white chocolate too sweet so would go for plain or milk. Great ideas so far though.
Old but spicey!

I agree with Cherry - pink filling would be too much. Remember, the essence of the brand is supposed to be that it's a limited edition 'girls' Mars Bar. That's a great gimmick, but if the bar has a pink filling and white chocolate, it's not a Mars Bar anymore is it? It's just a chocolate bar, and you've lost your main marketing point.

I like the sound of a white chocolate Mars with a pink filling, but unfortunately you'll be hard pressed to find any white chocolate fans on this forum.

I don't see why a pink filling in itself would be too much smurfy? It would only be a limited edition and has to be different from the original Mars, and pink fits in with the breast cancer theme. There was recently a pink PSP in aid of breast cancer if I remember correctly.

I say, yay for pink filling

if it tastes the same i don't care how much colouring you use.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

How about a mint flavoured filling? Girls love anything mint flavoured.

i like white chocolate but think 'Venus' would taste better if it were milk chocolate and strawberry fondant filled...

but really it wouldn't matter to me as i'd buy it in support of Breast Cancer..

MarsMaketer..would this be World Wide ?

Because how can it be a Mars Bar if it's nothing like one? A Mars Bar doesn't have white chocolate, it doesn't have a pink filling and it doesn't contain cherry or strawberry mousse! It's all very well to say people would buy it anyway because it's in aid of breast cancer, but the whole gimmick is that it's a pink themed Mars Bar called Venus. Just making 'a pink bar' is a completely different project altogether.

Look at it this way - this pink PSP you're talking about was still a PSP; it was just a different colour, just as the Pink Scrabble set you can buy for breast cancer is still a Scrabble set. If you switched the PSP on and discovered it was actually a Gameboy, you wouldn't say 'oh well, it's supposed to be different' would you?

So you're saying it has to taste the same no matter what colour it is?

If we apply your logic to Kitkat Chunky then there would never have been a peanut butter flavour...everyone knows Kitkats consist of chocolate and wafer, but what did Nestle do? Stuck a layer of peanut butter in-between, and it's been selling very well too (saw an ad about it today in The Grocer).

What we're talking about here is (in my eyes) a milk chocolate Mars bar with pink nougat and possibly a layer of strawberry caramel. How is that so different from a regular Mars? If Aero can have several different flavours then why not Mars? Like I said, I understand that not many people would like a white chocolate version and I'm sure no company would be in a rush to bring out a white chocolate Mars.

I see your point, but Peanut Butter KitKat is a variation, not a limited edition version of the original product. I'm not saying a different variety of Mars Bar wouldn't sell either. What I thought we were talking about here was a limited edition for charity.

A Peanut Butter KitKat still contains wafer. Mint Aeros still contain aerated chocolate. They are also products in their own right. If Nestle took the wafer and chocolate away but still called it a KitKat, would it still be one?

It begs the question - what makes a Mars bar? Chocolate, nougat and caramel? You can still have all that with pink nougat, strawberry caramel and milk chocolate.

What's in a name? Would a Mars bar, by any other name, smell as sweet?
