I think the police have better things to do than check whether people are letting fireworks off on the right date.

We do have by-laws in Peterbrorough. At one time things got so bad fireworks were going off four nights of the week all year round. They were also being let off in thye day time for Muslim weddings and they were using super-strength ones that are not allowed to be used by people without training.

The local authority decided to pass a by-law making it illegal to let them off outside specified dates and times. It was policed by the envirnmental health department and worked really well. We don't get much abuse of the by-law because people have been prosecuted.

They do now seem to be an excuse for annoying people to be more annoying. I was trying to go to sleep last night and someone was letting fireworks off at 12:45.

Are they just mad or what? I know that's technically November 5th but do me a favour!

One night a car drove past a restaurant in Peterborough and lobbed a firework into the open front door. It caused panic and chaos inside but fortunatley noone was hurt.

The following night they were foolish enough to return and do the same thing. They were caught on CCTV and stopped by the police in seconds. A 29 year old man, aided by three teenagers, was arrested.

Can you believe this? It's bad enough that teenagers are stupid and wicked enough to do such a thing but a grown man must really have a few screws loose.

How would I punish them? Lock them up for a month and giver them hard labour - stone crushing or such like.

Oh come on. When it's the 4th or 5th you come to expect fireworks going off.

Try living underneath a flat where the people above play ridiculously loud music for 15 hours non stop. That's what I had to suffer over the weekend. I had environmental health out yesterday and the flat in question will be getting a harshly worded letter next week.

No, I'm sorry, at 8pm I expect fireworks to go off but 12:45 in the morning just about takes the bally biscuit!

I think fireworks are great fun if used properly, but there are a lot of yobs who just use them to make a lot of noise to annoy or scare people.
