Heinz and Premier Foods lock horns in sloga...

by Sarah Woods Brand Republic 14 Sep 2006 14:00

LONDON
- Heinz has hit back at Premier Foods, the company behind Branston
baked beans, at any plans that it may have to use a 'Beans Means
Branston' slogan to clash with the classic Heinz's 'Beanz Meanz Heinz'
advertising slogan.

                  Heinz has written to
Premier Foods saying that any attempt to use the proposed slogan would
infringe Heinz's registered trademark "Beanz Meanz Heinz". Heinz
brought back its iconic catchphrase for a TV advertising campaign
earlier this month after an absence of more than a decade. Created by
Leo Burnett, slogan was initially dropped to better reflect Heinz's
range of products rather than just baked beans. However, it has been
reinstated after market research that found the majority of customers
wanted the slogan revived.  Premier Foods, which launched its beans
range in November last year, has now threatened to use the similar
"Beans Means Branston" slogan.

It's ridiculous. All that fuss over 'should we drop the Beanz Meanz Heinz slogan?' was so obviously a publicity stunt - they never intended to drop it. It would serve them right if Branston did take the slogan.

I agree - they wouldn't keep it up for long, it would just be to annoy Heinz and generate themselves a bit of publicity. Heinz are in my bad books anyway because of the HP fiasco.

They're closing the HP factory in Birmingham and moving production to Holland. Although there have been mass protests, MPs have become involved and the union have come up with £5m worth of cost cutting measures - meaning it won't actually save them much to move production after all - they're stubbornly going ahead with the move. And despite the brand no longer being British, they have no plans to remove the image of the Houses of Parliament from the label!!!

I wouldn't go that far, but a lot of Brummies are boycotting the brand.

I don't buy Heinz anyway, Morrisons own brand tastes fine to me.

Heinz are adding more tomato to their beans as they are not selling well. I prefer Branstons beans and they are cheaper.
