Drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water and may even have extra health benefits, say researchers. The work in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition dispels the common belief that tea dehydrates. Tea not only rehydrates as well as water does, but it can also protect against heart disease and some cancers, UK nutritionists found. Experts believe flavonoids are the key ingredient in tea that promote health.

When has anyone said tea is not good for you?  I think there is something in what Loulou says.  however tea is a diuretic and therefore does not have the rehydration properties of water.  If you drink lots of tea then fine - but still drink lots of water.

I read that drinking strong tea is good for the heart.  We still need to drink lots of water too.

Then they were wrong.  There is something to be said for not OD'ing on tannic acid, but tea in moderation is totally harmless and the flavonoids as Loulou describes are beneficial.

I agree with this - tea always seems surprisingly refreshing to me, even on a hot day, unlike coffee.

I agree with that. Nothing beats a good cuppa. I dont think it rehydrtaes like water does, but I would prefer it over coffee any day.

I thought tea was supposed to dehydrate you in the same way coffee does, but if not that's good news for me as I practically have the stuff on a drip.

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

I believe that tea has less caffeine than coffee does, and caffeine is what dehydrates you.

You could always buy decaf tea - but in my experience it tastes horrible.
