I do too.  A guy I see regularly through work claims he wrote "The Man With a Child in His Eyes" but it was pinched by her agent and he never got paid.  I do believe him as he is a songwriter and used to be in several well-known bands in the 60s/70s.  He doesn't seem particularly bitter about it.

I think that's complete bollocks. Any songwriter could say they wrote a song. Anyway, the song is from a womans perspective.

I once met a man who said he was once Toyahs agent. He stopped at my market stall to tell me I looked like her.

Another thing, Kate played The Man With The Child In His Eyes on piano to David
Gilmour (Pink Floyd) before she became famous or even had a record
contract. It's part of why she got signed by EMI in the first place,
becase Dave thought she had talent and loved that song.

She wrote that song in her shed when she was about 13, and played it to Dave Gilmour.

As much as I love that song, I thought I'd mention one or two others

Choosing your favourite song ever is a nightmare, but I think the one that just about edges it for me is 'Soon As My Heart Breaks' by Taylor Dayne. She is my favourite singer and this song is just her and a piano, and it shows off her voice and vocal range perfectly.

The song I really love at the moment is 'Everything' by Anna Vissi. She's huge in Europe but has never hit it big in the UK. The song was in this year's Eurovision and should have won by a mile.

Like Smurfy, I find it impossible to pin down a favourite song because music, to me, has so many functions. For a song to really grab me, it has to be good lyrically and orchestrally (??) and also have a political or cultural dimension. I have mentioned few of my favourites before but here are a few more:

For Your Love - Yardbirds

Changes - David Bowie

Loving You - Minnie Ripperton

She - HAS to be Elvis Costello version though

More later.

Old but spicey!

'Sweeter For Me' and 'Diamonds and Rust' by Joan Baez, 'Martha's Harbour' by All About Eve, 'Valentine' and 'I Will Be With You' by T'Pau... the list goes on. I also like songs sung in foreign languages for some reason.
