I haven't witnessed that yet but I can quite well believe it. The bakery near me always has loads left at about 5pm when I go past.

my friend work in a bakery and according to "health and safety" they are not allowed to give out the leftovers. all them doughnuts going to waste!

I think that's right - a friend of mine used to collect loads of food from M & S at the end of the day and it went to the night shelter but I believe he's not allowed to do that any more.
