What is the point....

Of Plane spotting? I know they take pics and write down numbers but why do they collect these numbers and pics?

I am not intending to offend anyone I am just curious as to why people do it.

We took our Son to see the planes landing and taking off at Gatwick yesterday and they are all there the plane spotters with the cameras and the binoculas, one guy got really upset cos he had put his camera away when a Monarch airlines plane came in and he missed it!

WHY???

I wonder the same about train spotters. Do they wait until a train comes along whose number they don't have? What do they do with the numbers?

Perhaps they just find it relaxing?

Some of them take lunch with them and make it a day out... do you reckon they have their houses decorated with pictures of plane/trains/buses/Eddie Stobart lorries or whatever else they are spotting?

Well I know at least one train spotter who does!

Also, a few men I know have miniture train layouts in their lofts and spend hours up there playing with them!

I suppose it's like a collecting thing to them... they probably think I am strange for collecting Eeyores lol

But at least I don't PLAY with my Eeyores or decorate my walls with them!

Train spotters are sad people. Plane spotters are not quite so sad.  They're more like birdwatchers just eccentric and committed to their hobby.

Did you see on the news that train spotter who took a train for a joy ride with his mate?

He was only about 19 and had greasy hair in a bob style.. looked like a very strange boy and when he was leaving court he looked as though he wanted to burst out laughing.

He got something like 200 hrs community service... doesn't matter that he could of caused a disaster driving a train down a track.

IDIOT!
