The standard of literacy and numeracy at work among most of the people outside of the offices is frightening.  One of the supervisors constantly mixes up there and their and as for the apostrophe - well I have given up.

Outside of the office? In my last job lack of basic literacy was a big problem in the office too! I couldn't believe some of the words people had to ask me to spell for them.

Yes, some of our office staff have spelling that leaves a little to be desired but it's not the really subnormal stuff from the shop floor.

Klaus Moser conducted an investigation into basic and literacy skills for the current Government and as a result the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Strategy was formulated to address the problem.
