Milk - full v semi v skimmed
« on: June 03, 2006, 10:06:28 pm »

After my bread thread I thought I'd raise the subject of another food staple...milk

So what do you guys prefer? I love full, yet I buy semi!!! I would get organic, but it's so much more expensive.

I have full cream most of the time. Skimmed is vile and tastes like coloured water. Semi is ok.

Semi at home, skimmed at work.  Never full - I hate it!

I haven't had full milk in years - my mom switched to semi about 17 years ago so I just got used to it and started buying it myself when I moved out. Skimmed is, as Kevvosa says, white water. I would only have it out of desperation.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

It's just a matter of getting used to it.

I have a possible solution to those who would like fat free milk (skimmed) but don't like the lack of taste. Buy skimmed sterilised milk. It is usually in the aisle beside UHT (I don't like it) milk. It can be found in plastic bottles that are ribbed to allow for its expansion when it is sterilised.

It is heated to less than UHT temps so does not have quite the same taste. It is however slightly sweet and goes well with cereal (in my opinion). It also has the bonus of having a long ambient shelf life till opened then treat as pasteurised milk.

It comes in full, semi or skimmed too. I use the skimmmed on my cereal.

Yuk! I don't like milk at all. Only really have it in my tea, and then only a mere smidgin.

Usually only buy semi skimmed, although I did buy some full cream Guernsey milk on Friday for use as a ingredient when baking (banana and walnut muffins and also raspberry and white choc muffins, really yummy by the way!!)

I only needed a small amount for the recipe and when my husband and eldest son discovered it this morning the both had a bowl of cornflakes with it.... and then had a chat about how fantastic it was and the merits of it with various types of cereal.  Worth it just for the father/son bonding session!!

I kind of have a love-hate thing with longlife milk. I don't particularly like the taste, but it reminds me of camping holidays when I was little, so it brings me happy memories too!!!

I don't like milk either. I have powdered milk (Marvel or similar) in tea.

I use powdered skimmed milk.  My girlfriend has also bought a tub just for me.  She still uses unleaded as I call it.
