I was trying to make a cheesecake yesterday, following a recipe from Cadbury's website and it called for gelatine, so I bought some. As I was mixing it, it had the most vile smell in the world. Sort of like a hundred rotting dogs all compressed into one. Ive thrown it out and refuse to use it ever again.

Anyone else had a bad experience with it?

Seriously, I have a rendering plant about 25 miles away from me.

The stink from that travels for miles. Absolutely howling.

Gelatine does smell quite bad -but then it is made from animal extracts. My dad used to use it as wood glue when I was a child.

I suppose boiled bones shouldn't really smell that great! Makes me glad I'm a vegetarian. Hunt down some Vege-Gel next time Kev!

From now on if I ever need to use any I will use vege-gel, I can understand now why people become vegetarian and Im seriously considering it.

It's made from boiled pigs' trotters and cows' feet, did you expect it to smell sweet?
