The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will
be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which
was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English
spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in
plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make
the sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion,
and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome
"ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20%
shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse o f the new spelling kan be expekted to
reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always
ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is
disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with
"z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou"
and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand
ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze
forst plas.

And another one, although I expect most people have seen this as it's been doing the rounds for a few weeks.

News Flash from DVLA

In order to assist other motorists in identifying potentially dangerous drivers, it's now compulsory for anyone with a lower than average intelligence and driving ability to display a warning flag.

The flag (consisting of a red cross on a white background) will be attached to the top of at least one door of their vehicle.

For drivers of exceptionally low ability, additional flags are required to be shown. There is no upper limit to the number.

The first one is very funny.  However, there is serious side to the second one.  If people were flying the Union Flag I could understand it.  The flag of St. George on the other hand should be reserved for St. George's day.  Waving it from cars is tribal nonesense.

These are both very funny and I have seen them both before. Bounty's last post is much too serious. We will sport a small England car sticker this summer and enjoy the FUN of the World Cup.

Someone here was told to take the England flags off his car as he was inciting racial hatred and one pub has been told to take down it's England bunting from outside.

Surely being made to take down the English flag is inciting racial hatred of the English?

The concept of race is a myth.  At best it could be said to be inciting cultural hatred, but then the English were multi cultural before any people with different skin-colour came to these shores.

I know plenty of people whose family background is Asian, West Indian or West African who would be proud to fly the English flag and see England do well in the World Cup.

Yes, so do I.  We're richer for it.  Unfortunately there are a significant number of people, may be regrettably a majority who would sneer at the idea and have them go back to 'their own country'.

Yes, but I bet you don't know too many Scots with the same view!
