I am completely pissed off with eBay at the moment. Between the woman who thinks a spare phone fascia isn't spare if Orange supply it and the woman complaining the sleeves on her jacket are too short, I feel like chucking the whole thing in. I won't of course because I need the money.

Buyers seem to have all the rights and sellers have none.

Let's see what the forum thinks of this dilemma. I sold a mobile phone I believed was unlocked to this woman. She says it isn't, and instead of asking for a refund, she claims she took it to a shop and paid £10 to have it unlocked - which she now wants ME to pay. I have said I won't pay because she spent this money through her own valition. She's now opened a Paypal dispute.

What do you reckon - should I pay up?

I wouldn't pay up and I don't see how any claim through paypal can work once she has left feedback to say she has received. It's her word against yours and I believe paypal would ask her to show a receipt of having the phone unlocked.

I agree the buyer should have taken the problem up with you as the contract is with you and not a third party.

But be careful of Paypal; they are not a bank and do not have to adhere to the codes of conduct that banks do. Ultimately they can do what they like and they do tend to favour buyers over sellers.

I agree and I am also amazed that she was charged £10 to unlock a phone.  We have a stall on the local market that will do it for much less than that - I think £2?

my partner sells stuff on ebay and we have loads of problems with timewasters and unpaid items but nothing ever seems to get done and we get stuck with the fees

the thing is when you sell a bike for £3000 the fees are high when they then say sorry we didnt mean to bid oops!

Anybody bid and not pay on my items I always claim the final fee credit back from Ebay and strike the buyer. Three strikes and they are de registered.

I dont have too many problems, just once someone from the US bid on an item and never paid, so they got unpaid item strike and I relisted it.

I am always careful and never leave feedback if I'm the seller until the buyer has. If I'm the buyer I will leave feedback as soon as I have tested the item, as they don't really have anything to leave negative feedback for.

I don't usually have too many problems either, they tend to speak to me about any problems they have and its then resolved.

But its not fair for her to expect you to pay for the unlocking. I think you can now do this for free over the internet. And the one whose jacket arms are too short, thats just tough luck. She should just sell it on. I buy a lot of clothes on eBay and if it doesn't fit, I just sell it on.
