Hope you all had a great break folks. I got back from Tenerife tonight. It has been lovely there for most of the week, although becaude we were in the north of th island, it was always cloudy in the mornings.

Although I've been to France a few times in the last couple of years, I haven't actually flown since 1973 so was completely unprepared for the total panic I felt when the plane started to hurtle down the runway. When it took off I totally freaked out and wanted to get off! My husband and a lovely airline steward managed to calm me down but they advised me to get some Valium from the doctor next time I fly. Coming back, I was a bit more calm but still terrified for the first half hour.

Still, it's been a nice break and Puerto de la Cruz is beautiful. We had a very healthy week walking down from our apratment in the hills to the beach and shopping area hundreds of feet below us. Walking up and down the hills all week got us really fir and brown. By the way, the sand is totally black!

Vodka and chocolate works just as well, by the way

Although I am, in general, a very nervous traveller in most respects, I just was not prepared for the fear that overtook me on take-off! I will try your tip Cherry because my husband is now talking about going to Australia! Tenerife is over four hours - Australia is hours and hours longer. I'll need extra luggage space for the chocolate/vodka!

Personally I love flying it's my OH who doesn't. I can identify with your situation; I've never flown further than Malta with my OH but this year we're off to Canada ...

Glad you had a good time Oldspice.  Yes - Australia is around 24 hrs flying, and you have to take-off and land a couple of times to refuel.
