Metros are on strike here on Tuesday. Tyne tunnel is closed and the schools are all closed too.

Is this happening in your area or just in the north?

Laughing 1 623 I have been across the forth bridge. Is it true that they start painting at one end and when they finish it is time to start again?

Changing the pension scheme. Currently if you have worked 40 years + your age and it is >85 you can retire. Not any more. However teachers, firemen and civil srevants still get this perk retained.

No Black Kight, you are wrong about teachers. I have had notification that I will retire at 65 instead of 6o. However, the teachin unions have not decided what action to take.

The strike on Tuesday is by Unison workers who have had their pension rights changed. It will affect many, many public services. We have Unison members at my college (non-teaching staff) and they are on strike.

Personally I feeel EVERYONE has the RIGHT to strike but I would not withdraw my labour from teaching students, only from carrying out admin duties.

Old but spicey!

The strike is not only Unison, there are about 7 unions involved including TGWU which is why many transport related people are on strike. I am a Unison member and will be on strike tomorow.

The government has ruled that members of the uniformed police, armed forces, NHS and civil service pension schemes should be able to retire at 60 and have their pensions benefits protected.

Yet the government is changing the local government pension scheme for the worse, forcing us to work longer or receive a smaller pension.

Contrary to newspaper propaganda, we don't retire on "fat cat" pensions. Women, who make up three quarters of the pension scheme members, get an average pension of just £31 a week. For many, pensions fall below benefit levels.

Possibly different where I am Oldspice as I have been informed that teachers here will have their rights protected.

I personally think that by the time I am due to retire that no one will retire at 60.

I will be on strike tomorrow.  I'm not sure if I agree with it or not but I have little choice as all the libraries will be closed.
