Baby names
« on: March 19, 2006, 12:32:29 pm »

I have a new great nephew. Arrived yesterday which was great timing as it's my nieces birthday today. Anyway not stuck on the babies name...Leon.

So my question is which names has anyone you know given their baby lately and you have liked/disliked it.

Almost everyone I or my family know who've had a baby lately have called it either Milly or Molly if it's a girl, and Jack if it's a boy. Nice enough but hardly original. I don't hold with names like Peaches Trixibelle or whatever the Geldof kids are called, but at the same time I wouldn't want to shout my kid's name across a playground and have seventeen kids turn round. Two of my schoolfriends have called their daughters Grace which I think is quite nice.

I like grace very much. I think it's very important children have a name that can grow with them without sounding silly. The worst names I've known my friends/associates give to their children are:

Basil (my daughter's teacher called her son this), Gabriel (a colleague called her son Gabriel which I think sounds very girly, Oscar - a colleagues grandson is called Oscar!

Old but spicey!

Baby names are all very well but they have to sound right for adults too, for when they get older.

The woman in my post office has a grand daughter called Imogen. That's quite nice.

Wellmy girls are called Jessie-Rose and Kaitlyn (middle name Kiera)

My brother's girlfriend is expecting and they are calling there baby Lewis which in my opinion is horrible and my friend has just had a baby and called him Owen which is not to my taste but is not as bad as Lewis.

Argh too many Lewis and Bradley babies. I remember when 4 of my friends all had boys and all named them Liam.

Silly bastards.

If I was going to have children (which I'm not) I would call them Kieran and Shauna.
