On these dark, cold nights, what do you curl up with? I have just started a book about the Rothschild Buildings in London's east end.

DIM Wallace, 'Beguiled by Birds'.  A superb book on the history of ornithology in britain by one of the UK's elder statesman of birdwatching.

I've just started a new Judy Astley. Her books pretty much all have the same plot (woman with slightly useless husband is trying to put her marriage back together after an affair whilst dealing with unruly teenagers), but she does it so well. I've also got a Margaret Atwood waiting for when I'm in the mood for something heavier.

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

I know, I read it at uni - fantastic. Have you read The Blind Assassin? Got loads of bad publicity becuase it won the Booker and everyone said Atwood got it as a 'lifetime acheivement' award, but if you put that out of your mind and just enjoy it, it's very good.
