There's been a  cracked paving stone in my street for 6 months. First it took 2 men to draw a cross on it, probably to point out to the person fixing it where it was.  Then someone put a cone over it , supposedly to stop people walking on it. wouldn't it be easier just to get it pulled up and replaced.

The council put up CCTV cameras in our area. But if anything happens you have to pay to get a copy of the tape with the evidence on!

weve got CCTV cams all over town. odd thing is, you can access them on the net and watch the street crime. whats the point in that?

My council does its best with the money it has. We have lovely flowers in the town centre and on roundabouts around town. We have an excellent re-cycling scheme and have won for being a very environmentally clean city.

The worst thing about it is some of the people. They spit as they walk along, drop chip papers and drink cans where-ever they are standing and dump their old fridges and rubbish at the roadside.

My council spends a lot of money on flowers but I'm still sore from when it pulled down a Georgian shopping area in 1971 to make way for a f**king shopping centre.  Our 'castle' is a pile of sh*t too.

Yes, Nottingham does have its challenges and gun crime is on the increase which is very worrying. What I find very hard to take is the senseless, vicious, everyday crimes that happen in our city. here are some examples:

An elderly lady walking home from the shops was diliberately knocked down by a young thug on his bike who then robbed her of her handbag.

A couple were celebrating their engagement and went out for the evening. They were in a taxi waiting at traffic lights when a gang of thugs pulled open the door, dragged the young man out and beat him up - for no reason whatsoever.

Hooligans wrecked a local play area, pushed a car into the heart of it and then set fire to it, completely destroying the equipment.

Disabled people, living independently in a sheltered housing complex have been the target for verbal abuse, vandalism and threatening behaviour at the hands of a gang of youths.

I used to feel sorry for people who could not behave like decent citizens but now I just think they are scumbags, some of whom need a bullet through their temple. Sorry. It just makes me sick to think of defenceless people being treated so badly.

I certainly think there is a case to bring back public corporal punishment.  The stocks are a good idea.  Throw eggs and rotten veg at them.  The perpertrators would not have any hero status among their friends, but would just look like the stupid w**kers that they are.

Of course the government wont introduce it because they are a bunch of useless, 'liberal', egotists who wouldn't know a good policy if they fell over it.

I think, deep down, that it is better to try to make better citizens of people by good examples, decent housing, good educations and all the social institutions that support and encourage decency. That is why we no longer go in for public humiliation for such people.

However, in reality, there are some people you just can't help or change and a nice big dose of their own medicine is just what they need. For example, the thugs who smashed up the playground should have their prized possessions (mostly playstations and such) confiscated until they can behave in a civilized manner. As for the thug who knocked down and robbed an old woman - well he's just beyond the pale as far as I am concerned.
