The BBC are doing a vote on your favourite public information films. Certainly brought back lots of memories for me:

it was the one with those 70's kids flying the kite near the pylon that always had me hiding behind the couch.

There is a DVD called Charley Says and it is full of these films.

There were 2 which scared me but I never see it on any such compilation:

1. Mum is ironing and the little girl is playing with a doll on the floor. Mum goes away for some reason (the phone, doorbell etc) and the girl pulls the cord on the iron. The iron falls on the dolls face and there is a scary close-up of the melted doll face.

2. Kid puts a tin of something in the oven and it blows up the kitchen.

i remember the 1st one.

HOW BOUT THIS ONE - 2 fairly older lads are at a riverside and see a white dummy floating in the weater. one of them jumps in to retrieve it, and when he grabs the dummy... it comes to life and drags him under! eek! i came across it on an old tape and it sends shivers through me even today!

THE MORAL - dont try to save a drowning person if you dont know how to swim properly.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Scary!

I remember a similar one but the lad who jumped in had been drinking.

I think adverts like that are very good. It definately makes you stop and think.

Have you seen the current one where the little girl is all broken on the side of the road? Its chilling

That's the one! It's always on late at night for some reason - when the kids it's aimed at are in bed!

I think it's because they don't get money for showing public information films.

one of my faves was the old people catching fire in the 'clothing fires' one bbc used to show. watching a granny burn on primetime tv always seemed a little surreal to me.
