Right, this has been annoying me all day. Here's a 'riddle' for you...

Now count the F's in that sentence.
Count them ONLY ONCE!

ANSWER:

Don't ask me how this works, but there are six F's in the sentence.

A person of average intelligence finds three of them.

I truly did. Most people make the mistake of skimming the text and 'seeing' only the 'fs' at the start of each word. This is a normal reading technique - we 'read' only the start of most words and leave context to help us 'guess' what the rest of the word is. That is how people miss the 'fs' off of the words 'OF' and 'SCIENTIFIC' . Part of my job is to teach an awareness of how people read so I did not 'skim' read the text.

I also got six, but only because I've seen as similar test before and made the 'skimming' mistake.

I got 6! Same thing though, I am aware that people tend to skim the short words. But I honestly did count them up right first time.

See if you can solve this...

A man is approaching the middle of a field. He knows that when he gets there, he'll die. He's perfectly healthy. Nothing in the field can harm him. There's no one in the field who wants to harm him. Yet he knows for sure that he'll die when he reaches the middle. How does he know this?

A man lives on the 15th floor of a tower block. Every day when he goes to work he gets the lift down to the ground floor. However, when he comes back he only gets the lift to the 13th floor and walks up the last two flights. He never walks down to floor 13 to take the lift, but never rides the lift all the way to floor 15. Why?
