Why did they call Opal Fruits Starburst?

I heard it was something to do with European legislation as the sweets did not actually contain opals

Probably it was more like the company wanting to save money by having the same name for the product globally so they could run the same adverts worldwide

It's a globalisation thing. As Cherry says, it's cheaper to use the same branding worldwide - plus Americans don't come over now and say 'oh my gaaawwd, what are Opal Fruits? I like totally wanted some Starburst and a Snickers, but all I can find is this Marathon bar. Like oh my gaawwd'.

Not all Americans are valley girls or Texans

My friend in Dallas, originally from Ohio gets me to send her Cadburys fruit and nut, chocolate buttons and Thorntons. She says the choc there is horrid compared to ours. She speaks completely different to my friend in Wyoming and neither of them say oh my gaawwd.

Probably. I have to speak real slow cos they can't understand me. Then again people in the south can't understand me, a bit like poor Terry from Hells kitchen.
