Cornflake treacle cakes?
« on: January 30, 2006, 09:00:04 pm »
Does anyone know where I can find a recipe for treacle cornflake cakes? I dont know if thats the name of them, but at school I remember they used to make these little things similar to chocolate rice crispie cakes (in bun trays) but they had a sweet treacle sort of flavour and were sticky.

They were gorgeous but Ive not had one since I was about 8!

I don't think there's exactly a recipe - I think you just melt chocolate and treacle in a pan, melt them and bung the cornflakes in!

I've think I've got a recipe - I have a 1960's book of Kellogg's recipes!  Off to work now but I'll look for it later.

OK, this is from the 'Kellogg's Sunshine Cookery' book, circa 1968!  (Interestingly Coco Pops were called Coco Krispies back then and there were cereals called Bran Buds, Sugar Smacks and Puffa Puffa Rice!

Anyway, the nearest thing I can find is 'Happies'.

1/2 cup brown sugar, 3 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, 3 cups Corn Flakes.

Combine sugar and honey in large saucepan.  Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved and mixture bubbles.  Add butter/marg and stir until dissolved, then add Corn Flakes, stirring until well coated with syrup.  Put into paper cases and leave to cool.  Makes about 14.
