Ostentatious Christmas lights
« on: December 18, 2005, 09:33:21 am »

This recent assault on our visual sense seems to have spread this year.  There are a lot more bright and tasteless bulbfests round our estate.  There are again one or two totally over the top ones, which must be vivible from space.  I'll try to get some photos.

I think this must be a cultural phenomenon, since if you go round the posher areas, the decorations are more tasteful and tend to concentrate more on lights around trees etc and a few round the door.  The snowmen, Rudolphs and inflatable, luminous Santas appear to be a working class thing.

Discuss.

I am not one for "elaborate" Christmas decorations. Tasteful ones i love. I would tend to agree with you on this one BH

Yes, I like little Angels and a few white fairy lights.   Perhaps a small nativity scene.

Our estate is similar - tasteless, over-the-top light shows and sickening plastic plackards stuck into the soil "Santa - please stop here".
Old but spicey!

What do you expect if you live in Long Eaton Bounty?
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

I thought you said that's where you lived?

I used to live in Nottingham - whereabouts are you?

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

Long Eaton is Derbyshire.  I live in Beechdale, but spend most of my time in Strelley with my girlfriend.  Where did you live?

You have a garden in your house?  Well that's just showing off.
