Retire
« on: December 02, 2005, 07:09:26 am »

On the radio just now, they said Public Sector workers like teachers and nurses can currently retire at 60.

News to me! As a qualified Advanced Skills Teacher working in the Further and Higher Education sector, my retirement date has been set as my 65th birthday. School teachers on the other hand, who get more holidays than us, can currently retire at 60.

I don't mind though, I'll never make it to 65 at this rate. I'm half dead now.

60? 65? Sounds great! Thanks to the criminal mis management and mis appropriation of public funds by this government i will be working till the day i die. Unless maybe one of my daughters marries an immigrant or ethnic "minority" to entitle her to some benefits that they may look after their old man with.

Next Xmas cracker joke i hear is "More powers for Mayor of London" I nearly laughed at that one. Then i cried.

What does it matter at what age you retire?  If you're happy working, then hey ho! is what I say.  I would like to go and live with my girlfriend in The Isles of Scilly now and I'm 40, but I can't.

Lemoneye, forget pensions.  Buy a load of shares in Whitbread and Halifax and pocket the dividends four times a year.

Good luck

It doesn't matter if you are happy in your work or not, if you retire
at 60 you have a good few years to relax and enjoy your retirement.

My retirement date it 2049!

No, ALL Civil Service retire at 60 - not just the hard jobs - all the morons in the council tax office or the inepts in the CSA all of them have cushy jobs, full pensions, and flexi time. Half of them arrived in the last 5 years and some still can't speak English. (I used to work for the Inland Revenue)

It's all very well the government saying they'll raise the retirement age to 68, but they'll have to do something about ageism if they want it to have any impact. People who get made redundant at 50 may never get another job - is it any better them claiming benefits for 20 years?

623058 - I am a real teacher but because I don't work in a school I don't get the same deal. My job is very, very hard. %0% of the time i teach 16-19 year olds. The rest of my teaching workload is taken up with teaching teachers and HE students and I also observe and assess trainee teachers.

There should be equality for all. Everyone should have the same retirement age. If they want to retire early they can, but on a reduced pension. if they want to carry on, so be it but everyone, from lorry drivers to doctors should be able to retire at an agreed age.

Lower the retirement age to 55 for everyone so people can enjoy their lives.

Then free television licence and public travel to everyone over 65.

Hey Oldspice, maybe I can take the girl students off you, if that will help lighten your load.

Strangely, I don't teach that many girls. Normally I have about 10 boys in my groups for every girl. Currently, because I am covering a class for a sick colleague, that figure has risen because i am looking after a childcare group.

I change my mind about free tv licence to everyone over 65. What was I thinking. No one should pay a tv licence ever. Abolish it.
