None in Nottingham. Kent and Wales are normally ten feet deep in snow before we get any and even then it never stays for more than a few hours. The last proper snow we had was on 12th December 1990. Seriously it was that long ago and boy did it snow! there were blizzards that brought down pylons and telephone wires. There were parts of the county without lecky for 5 days. Before that you have to go back to January 1987. That was a bad one too. Then of course there was December 1981. That was the mother of all winters 1981/82. I was at college and I must have fallen down ten times a day on the ice walking there and back.
My Mum says that 1964 was a really, really bad winter but apparently the Ding Dong Mother of all winters was 1947. My Gran bless her, used to tell me of skating on the Trent.
My uncle was in the war and he said that in the Russian front the Germans sometimes died going for a wee. Apparently if they went outside in Leningrad in 1941 when it was -45 their urine would freeze in mid flow and the ice would form inside their urethra and kill them.
