We really have had a glorious autumn. The weather is warm and sunny and the garden is still in bloom. We have a a bit of rain here and there - enough to water the garden and keep it growing. The countryside around here is breathtakingly beautiful with golds and browns and reds and greens. We enjoyed the full glory yesterday whilst driving to Coventry to a university open day. The M6 was closed so we had to do a detour.

Yes, it's been a lovely autumn. The colours on the trees in Derbyshire are wonderful.

There's a good description of it in the opening chapter of a novel called Peyton Place. It's a summer that stays long after the normal summer span or one that pops up unexpectedly during autumn.

Peyton Place! I used to watch that when I got home from school in about 1971.

More specifically an Indian (that's Red Indian) summer is a long warm spell after the first frost of autumn.

The novel is much better than that old TV version. It was her (Grace Melallis) first novel and is steamy but very absorbing. It's focus is on character rather than plot.

I'm doing the music for a wedding this pm so I hope the weather improves for them. It's really windy too.

I hope it stays nice for them too. Is it outside/ You don't want to be playing in the rain! What is it you play again? i can't remember whether it's a cello or a clarinet?

I adore cello music. Especially Elgar's concerto. It's very moving.
