I remember the programme where the person in the helicopter had to shoot the backpacks. I also thought it was presented by Annika Rice?

that Tresure HUNT

The Interceptor was:

a) Very similar in concept to Treasure Hunt and b) presented by Annabel Croft, who took over Treasure Hunt from Anneka Rice, which is probably why the two are so easily confused.

The Interceptor was axed because people found it too hard to follow. I remember Anna Soubury saying on Postbag - whatever happened to Anna Soubury?

I have never watched Emmerdale and I don't like EastEnders. It is miserable and ludicrous. No one works away from the square, no one has a washing machine, too many people are able to buy the pub/club/arches without even having to visit the bank (even though they can't afford a washing machine), people casually hand over cash bags and ask almost strangers to look after their market stalls, no one has to visit a supermarket .... shall I go on?

But best of all, no matter how impoverished you are, even if you've become a whore or a drug dealer to survive, you'll still drink at the Vic EVERY night and buy coffees from the caff instead of walking a few yards and making one at home!

a more accurate description:

late 80's. it was meant to run along side Treasure Hunt. basically, the idea was simple. 2 contestants (who were always thick as hell) would wear matching backpacks: one would contain a grand (ooooo!). one would be empty. they were locked, and their keys were hidden in odd places. the contestants were blindfolded and choppered miles away from each other. then, they were unblinded and let go. they had radio contact with Annabell Croft, who navigated them around (and always seemed to know WAY too much about their whereabouts.) basically, each contestant had to retrieve their partners key from some elaborate game, then meet back up with them before the clock ran out. only then could they try the keys and open the backpacks and retrieve the money.

SIMILARITIES TO Treasure Hunt: lots of choppers, a time-clock to beat, clues to follow/collect, ugly lycra-jumpsuits, begging members of the public for lifts and lots of bad camera-work. easy to confuse!

EASY, HUH? nooooo!

y' see, lurking in the midsts was a terribly camp man, dressed all in black leather and speaking a terrible scotish dialebnt. hwe had choppers, bikes and lots of money at his disposal... and it was his job to (ahem) 'INTERCEPT' the opponents. BUT HOW? on his wrist was a zapper-lazer, and a direct shot from his wrist onto a contestants backpack would LOCK the pack. oh - and he never knew which one had the money in, either.

so there it is - the BEST concept for a gameshow EVER. EVER-EVER. catch it on channel 121, challebnge-tv occasionally. it only lasted 8 episodes before it was cancelled. or check the website here: http://www.interceptors-lair.com/htmldocs/introduction/intro duction.htm

amazing stuff!

It was axed because no one understood it. If it was considered complicated back in 1989, can you imagine what people would think of it now in an age where Big Brother is passed off as culture?
