Obscure chocolate
« on: October 25, 2004, 02:41:46 pm »

Does anyone have any favourite bars, or just bars they've tried, that are really obscure and only found in certain places?

I'm very fond of a Nestle bar called Nuts, very similar to Topic - but the only place I've ever seen it is in two vending machines at a couple of local swimming baths!  There is another nice Nestle bar called Yes, which is also rarer than a frog with feathers.

Also are there bars which are still in production, but people generally have trouble getting? I've just moved back to Brum from Nottingham, and I can't remember seeing a Star Bar since moving (but then I am on a diet, so I do my best to avoid the choc ailse!)

Yeah, 'Maraboue' (I think that's how you spell it!). Really nice chocolates in a rolo style tube. I think they're Swiss, and the same manufacturers as 'Milka'. Could be wrong, but anyways, they taste great.....

It's been mentioned elsewhere but I used to love Suchards (I think they were Suchards anyway) 'bouchees' which used to usually appear in baskets on the counter of sweet shops as they were like one large individual sweet, like the Quality Street ones you get now.  I haven't seen them for a year or two though, so alas I think they are no more.

I have seen 'Nuts' in Farmfoods in the 5 for £1 section. Woolworths and Ikea do those 'Marabou' chocolates.

Bounty Mango, and Peanut Lions are quite obscure.

Cadbury Roast Almond too. Cheap shops often sell the 'obscure'
chocolate bars, usually imports. They have some weird and wacky foreign
chocolate bars too. Ive recently seen ones from Switzerland and
Belgium, not to mention a really special product called "Giotto" which
is like a coconut ball thing filled with a delicious cream.

I found a Mango Bounty in Sweets from Heaven at Thurrock. Needless to say I purchased a bar. Will try in the next few days and report back.

Mango eh? I love fruity chocolate bars, but hate coconut, which is unfortunate as it means I can't try Raspberry Ruffle either!

Does anyone know if these Mango bounty are 'officially' in circulation?

I dont think its officially in circulation. It could be that it was meant to be, but no shops would stock it so it ended up in cheap shops. There were some multipacks of it recently in Jack Fultons.

Do you have any cheap shops near you? Ie- Farmfoods, shops that often sell 2 or 3 items for £1, etc.
