I think someone has done a lime version of Jaffa Cakes in the past. In Lidl they do a cherry version and a raspberry version.

Are they allowed to call them Jaffa cakes though? Isn't it a trade mark?

I'm sure I have had Burtons brand lemon jafa cakes a long time ago, and
Im sure they did other flavours like blackcurrrant or rasberry.

It must be a general term then - like bourbon or custard cream.

Yes, it was Burtons that did the lime flavour. I remember now.

The thing I don't understand is if a jaffa is an orange then how can berry /lime/lemon ones be called jaffa cakes.

Actually Lou, Jaffa is a brand name for citrus fruit marketed by Israeli fruit growers. You could therefore find Jaffa oranges and Jaffa lemons or grapefruits. Israel markets all its fruit and vegetable through cooperatives and the citrus has the brand name Jaffa. All other fruit and veg from Israel, which includes melons, sharon fruit, avacadoes, Chinese leaves, tomatoes and quite a lot of specialist fruit and veg lines are sold under the Carmel brand name. So, if you see a shelf label that tells you the oranges/lemons/grapefruits are Jaffas but the ticket on the fruit says they are from Spain you've been had. Only cirus fruit from Israel can be called Jaffa.
