You have to do it one stage at a time and keep putting the bit you want in the centre.  At least that's how I got there.

I'm on the extreme west of Nottingham so it's about right.

Zoom in and see where I've put myself. Definitely wrong place, twice.

At least you didn't end up in the North Sea

I'll have a look see if anyone is developing something similar for MS's Virtual Earth project, that at least allows you to double click to zoom in (far easier to use most of the time imho).

I've deleted some off the google guest map. Following what people were
saying about navigating the map, I've knocked together a version myself
using Virtual Earth instead of google maps.

Try it out

Please let me know if it's any easier to use, Microsoft haven't put in
the maps for the UK yet so you don't get the same level of detail but
at least you can double-click to zoom or use your mouse wheel.

Oh and there aren't as many icons to choose from but copying google guest maps ones seemed wrong

Chocadmin, I put my marker on the new map, but it just shows a red cross instead of the icon I chose (a rainbow).

Actually I found the first map really easy to use and this one not so much. Plus on the old one there was more detail.

Hope this helps

I found it easy to use once I'd got the hang of using the mouse wheel to zoom around.

Thanks chocadmin, I can see my rainbow now.

I can see icons of the other people, but how do you know who the icon belongs to? If you hover the mouse over the icon it tells you the users message but I can't see how you know who the message is from

The not seeing the user issue is a bug in IE - silly me for using Firefox.

Will sort it in a few minutes.

Thanks for testing it out.
