Oldspice I'm with you on Freebird and Going Underground.

Of course there's a big difference between the definition of a 'great song' and simply a 'favourite song'.  For instance Bohemian Rhapsody was a great song but not one of my favourites.

Somehow Nutbush City Limits is up there for me, along with You Really Got Me (Kinks).

I've given it more thought.  As well as Wondeful world

Mine would be:

The Duel (Propoganda)

Baker Street (Gerry Rafferty)

Two minutes to Midnight (Iron Maiden)

Ace of spades (Motorhead)

Heroes (David Bowie)

Don't blame it on the Boogie (Michael Jackson)

One day in your life (Michael Jackson)

Borderline (Madonna)

Go Now (Moody Blues)

Firestarter (Prodigy)

Wonderwall (Oasis)

In no particular order.

Like I said, we're talking favourite songs now rather than great songs.

Surprised to see Michael Jackson there Bounty, but I always rather liked 'Don't stop till you get enough'.

My husband reckons Imagine by John Lennon is the greatest song ever written.

To me, all the ones I've mentioned are more than just favourites.

Bounty - you rememinded me that Go Now (Moddy Blues) is also one that i should have on my list. In fact, until I was about 14 it would have been my all time favourite.

I've left out David Bowie. How could I? He was the first star of my own generation that I adored. My favourite Bowie tracks are:

Starman

Life On Mars

Others too numerous to mention.

I love Blues music so I should really include Black Magic Woman and Man of The World by the real Fleetwood Mac and I love those bluesy 60s sounds thus I love The Animals, The Rolling Stones, Chris Farlow et al.

Thanks for the offer Robbie but I think if you set eyes on me you would not fancy me much.

Goldencup - I'm with you on The Kinks.

Now, what about our all-time most hated group? Mine would have to be Mungo Jerry.

Hm - good choice Goldencup. What about Bros? Wham? Duran Duran? I hated all of that type of music. And I can't stand Jazz Funk but i do love real  Jazz. I hate what passes for R&B nowadays.

Oldspice, R&B nowdays refers to Rhythm and Base not Rhythm and Blues.

The greatest song ever written? Impossible to answer! How far back can we go? If I had to go to an island and take only 10 pieces of music with me I would have to have some classical so I would subdivide it thus:

Elgar's Cello Concerto

Rachmaninovs Piano Concerto N2

Mahler's 5th Symphony

Mozart's Piano Concerto

Mendholson's Violin Concerto

House of the Rising Sun - The Animals

Paint it Black - Rolling Stones

The times they are a changing - Bob Dylan

Diamonds and Rust - Joan Biaz

The Wall - Pink Floyd
