Hello all, I too am a Cabana fan, they were the best. I've just emailed the below to Cadburys, you never know, someone with some sense might think it's worth a relaunch.

You must seriously consider the return of the delicious Cabana. It may have failed in it's day but the world has moved on since, I and many beleive it would be a success in todays market as there is a huge demand for it's return.
This is a link to just one forum talking about how good it was and wanting it brought back.
http://www.chocolatereview.co.uk/chocforum/forum_posts.asp?T ID=1074&PN=1
You could do a limited edition return and see how well it goes if your uncertain of it's possible success, I for one think you'd be mad not to bring it back, it was a classy bar in it's day and in todays market it'd be a very classy bar, there is nothing that even slightly resembles it in regards to appearance, let alone taste! There is no competition.
Get the marketing right and you'd be onto a winner, you have to speculate to accumulate.
Most of your current products are bland and just the same as every other manufacturers offerings. Cabana was an excellent product, I think using Barry Mannilow in the ad for it was a mistake at the time which killed it's success.
It's time to wake up and smell the chocolate! So come on Cadburys, be a little adventurous, be daring, do the right thing and bring back Cabana, you know it makes sense!

Kind regards

The reply from Cadburys......

Thanks for your e-mail, but the product you refer to is not a Cadbury product.Perhaps you could try Nestle?

At least you got a reply, which is more than I got the last time I e-mailed Cadbury about anything! I did here someone else say Cabana was made by Nestle, but another forum member e-mailed Cadbury about it and they said they had no plans to bring it back!

It was definitely a Cadbury product. nestle could never have made such a bar and anyway, they hadn't taken over Rowntrees at the time and only did bars like Dairy Crunch and Milky Bar.

According to Sweet Memories:

Cabana - Cadbury concoction of the sick-making variety. Coconut, caramel and whole cherries encased in milk chocolate - oorgh, no more for me, thanks. Lasted for about a year in the early '80s. Ads, as with Trio, featured the Banana Boat Song, replacing "Day-o!" with "Cabaaaa-na!" to little marketing effect.

But they also reckon Fry's Five Centres was called the Rainbow Bar, so posibly unreliable.

The Chocolate Project lists Cadbury, Nestle AND Rowntree as the makers!

There is no way Cabana lasted for only a year! They were around for about five years and started in about 1979/1980. I was in retail management at the time and remember them being launched. It was definitely Cadbury's Cabana - or I'm a banana.
