Shops opens at midnight
« on: November 08, 2010, 07:09:19 pm »
Many Shops and shopping centres are open until 1am to let gamers buy copies of the new Call of Duty Game.

Does anyone else think this has become a bit extreme

you're asking the wrong guy here... i remember queuing up for 2 hours in the pouring rain back in the early 90's for my copy of Super Mario Brother 3. and yes, it was worth it.

it should be noted that i was only 12 at the time.

however... i know a man in his late 30's who has taken the whole week off work to coincide with the release of Black Ops. bit extreme? (or just extremely sad?)

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I think these stores are doing what they have to in order to compete with the big online players. These days you can pre-order online and get release date delivery; if stores don't open until 9am they have no edge over the online competition. However, if you can get to the real gaming obsessives early, even only nine hours early, you're offering something extra.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

Sod that!  I just wait for a while until games go down in price.  I'm not desperate for this stuff anyway as I'm still playing Mass Effect.  What a game!

I am still fond of Spiro the Dragon and that's my limit.

I don't see this as any different from my daughter getting in a queue at 5am to buy the new Harry Potter book some years ago.
Old but spicey!

Seems a bit extreme to me. I agree with Smurfy it's the only way to get an edge over the online retailers.
I can understand queuing for things that could go out of stock (harry potter books -perhaps, the Wii was a good example, and you can't blame people trying to get Kinect - although I don't see the attraction of that myself).
