Christmas shopping
« on: November 17, 2009, 06:47:40 am »
Has anyone started yet?

I got a few bits a couple of weeks ago during a sale in a local department store.

Then, last Friday, I went out with a list and got a bit more. Next day, in Tesco, there were some lovely Lego sets with a third off the usual price so I got two (different ones) for my great nephews.

I've only got a few more pressies to buy. I can't believe how easy it's been this year.

Mind you, the hardest pressies to buy are those for hubbie and kids. Haven't a clue where to start with them!

yes, i've started. most of it's been done on amazon and ebay though - i find the actual shops down here have very little to offer.

I cut down quite a bit last year; a few of my cousins and I decided we'd buy just for the young kids, and in our group of friends we decided we'd rather spend the money on having a nice night out instead. I'll get for my parents, my sister and my one remaining grandparent, plus something small for my little cousins.
Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

I've done the majority of my shopping online and found much more choice than in the shops. Queueing to pay for items puts me right off going into town.

Like wjp, I normally I buy my presents online. But I bought something to give as a Christmas present on 2nd August so I guess my Christmas shopping started then. I haven't bought any other presents yet though ... I have a week off next week so I'll hit the shops then.

I had a moment of inspiration yeterday whilst waiting in the queue in John Lewis. I have six young teens to buy for - around the 11/12/13 age range, a girl and five boys. They are 'distant' relatives (related to my husband's step-mother's family) so not close family but I didn't want to leave them out. I thought they were all too old for a selection box, but too young for a proper box of chocolates and I was thinking about 'smellies' but then I remembered that John Lewis sells big bags of Jelly Belly Beans. So, I got six bags! I think they're ideal as they're seen as 'grown up' confectionary.

I have got most of my gifts now. Just about six more to go.

Shopping online this year has been much better than last year. Parcels are arriving within 2 days and the gift wrapping from some shops has been amazingly pretty.

I'd be scared to get gift wrapping from an online shop without seeing what's inside. I agree though about the shipping, it does seem to be faster this year. Maybe this is making up for the strikes earlier in the year!

Cherry , when i say gift wrapping i don't mean the whole item is wrapped so you can't see it. For instance jamas from la senza came with a silver ribbon tied around them and lots of pink tissue inside a black box. Earrings from Beaverbrooks came in a box with purple ribbon and tissue and lots of sparkly fairy dust. I wouldn't trust to have something completely wrapped incase they sent me an empty box.
