ostrich eggs
« on: March 23, 2010, 09:05:37 pm »
Apparently Waitrose are selling ostrich eggs for £18 each. They say (they being the reporter in the sun) that 1 ostrich egg is equivalent to 24 chicken eggs.
Anyone fancy an omelette?

I've had ostrich egg when I was in South Africa and can't say it tasted any different to one made from chicken eggs.  I wonder how you're supposed to get into them if you buy one to eat though - they're so strong you can stand on them!

According to Gino Di Campo's recipe one ostrich egg makes enough scrambled egg for two people.

I have seen large, dark blue eggs for sale at a farmers' market. I thought they were from peahens but I just googled peahen eggs and they are not blue. So I wonder what they were, any ideas?
