Well, after trying this "new" Bournville Old Jamaica, I have to say I wasn't that impressed.  To me it's nothing like the original, so as far as I'm concerned OJ still belongs in the 'discontinued' category on the Choc Forum.  I guess their claim of "new" might be valid therefore.  I found it quite 'synthetic' and 'perfumey' actually.  The Old Jamaica from Oz (full-size in the foil wrapper) is much more authentic IMHO, but not the individual plastic-wrapped one.  Bournville OJ is more like the latter.  I'm not sure how, but plastic-wrapped bars just don't taste right to me.  Maybe it's psycho-oral, I don't know! :P

You could soak your own raisins in rum overnight and then mix them into some quality melted dark chocolate.  Wait for it to harden, then you'll have your own OJ bar and it'll taste much better.

Mmmm....  Soaking the raisins in rum might be the key - we did try to make some rum and raisin choc a while back but went wrong by pouring rum into the melted choc.  Of course, the chilling effect instantly set the whole lot like concrete and we never bothered again!

Actually that reminds me: Does anyone on here remember such a thing as a 'Rumtopf'?  It was basically a large glazed pot with a lid and a face on the front.  The idea was that you half-filled it with a solution of rum and sugar, then added pieces of fruit to steep for a few months!  You then ate the fruit with cream (or whatever.)

Yes, rum and chocolate not good when mixed together.  You just need to chuck the raisins in the melted choc, the more the merrier!

Chuck the raisins out  the window, pour the rum down your neck and sleep well.
