Do you plan to emigrate?
« on: January 05, 2008, 02:59:30 pm »
A 102-year-old man is set to become the UK's oldest emigrant  when he set sails for New Zealand.
Proves it's never too late. I plan to go to Canada before I am 50 .Is anyone else planning to emigrate?

My husband and his family emigrated to New Zealnd when he was four years old and they came back then he was nine. He loved it there. His youngest brother (he has 5) emigrated to Australia two years ago and they like it our there but I could not live there. I would prefer Canada to Australia but would worry about the bears.  A friend retired to Valenci in Spain a couple of years ago and really loves the life. She learnt the language and loves to local people so maybe I'd opt for somewhere friendly in Europe.

I have always had a special liking for moderate, temperate climates. I melt if it gets too hot, so I would love to live in Canada or the cooler areas of New Zealand, but I always thought you had to have a skill or already have a job/family there to move somewhere like that.

Does no-one fancy the USA then? LOL

I wouldn't want to emigrate. I think the reason a lot of people say they would is pure 'grass is greener' syndrome.

I think a lot of people just want to retire somewhere more peaceful with better weather. Nothing wrong with that.

MayRae, both New Zealand and Canada can get very hot in the summer months. Winters in Canada can also be very harsh. However, it's a beautiful country.

I know far too many people who've come back to England recently - particularly from Spain.  I love visiting other countries (haven't been to Canada though) but I wouldn't want to live in any of them so far.
My parentls emigrated to South Africa and eventually came back again.

I don't think anyone can be in their right mind moving to Spain. Apart from the weather I don't see it being a better life. I don't even go there for holidays.

I'm studying for a foreign languages degree and I hope to travel in the future with a view of maybe settling elsewhere eventually.
I'm learning French and German so maybe Switzerland might be a good bet...or Luxembourg LOL
