Sunderland or Iraq?
« on: July 19, 2007, 05:20:50 pm »
It might not have the best of reputations, but it's fair to say most people would prefer to make a home in Sunderland than in war-torn Iraq. Yet the captain of the national football team, Younis Mahmoud, has reportedly turned down a move to Premiership club Sunderland - as his family would prefer to stay in Iraq. Have things really got that bad for the Mackems?

In a new twist to the saga, Black Cats manager Roy Keane has since claimed he's never heard of Mahmoud.

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

At the risk of sounding racist myself, if Mahmoud and his family want to stay in Iraq let them stay there. There are too many of the buggers who come over here, receive our generous hosptiality, then spend a lot of time telling us how wiocked and corrupt the west is.

Shocked  LOL  Actually round here we have the opposite - thousands of mostly Polish people working their socks off and telling us how wonderful our country is because we are so good to foreigners and they can send loads of money home.  The trouble is, they're now getting all the low-paid jobs in the area - none of my sons' friends have had any luck at all getting one.  I recently did a tour of over 100 hotels in the area and I think there were were only two which had English people on reception.

We have lots of Polish here working as taxi drivers and driving on the wrong side of the roads.

There has always been a large Polish community in Peterborough. They came originally to work on the land and in the brick yards back in the 1930s. Now, many many more of them have come over to work in fruit and veg picking and packing. They also work in the large warehouses that we seem to have a glut of in the area. We have huge numbers of Portuguese people here too. They don't seem to want jobs.
