Ties?

Jeremy Paxman says "It's time men stopped wearing ties."
I agree that ties are fairly useless and uncomfortable bits of material (sometimes hideous) but I think that an actual suit without a tie looks horrible.  Any opinions?

I wore one on my first day at my current job, but as soon as I was told I didn't have to I stopped. Ties are uncomfortable and in many ways outdated. It annoys me that many companies still expect men to wear suits and ties in all weathers while women get away with sleeveless tops.

I think suits can look naff without ties but I agree that ties are old-fashioned and cumbersome. Also, there is quite a lot of evidence to suggest they spread the MRSA virus as doctors rarely wash their ties and when they bend down to examine a patient their tie is often dangling over wounds and operation sites.
Old but spicey!

A suit needs a tie.
Uniform shouldn't be compulsory at work.

I like nothing more than a man in a smart suit with a lovely bright tie.
