I was told off by police.
« on: May 09, 2007, 09:29:00 am »
This morning at 3.30am I was woken by my car alarm going off and looked out of my bedroom window to see the drivers side door was wide open. I dialled 999 (whoops big mistake). Some woman starts lecturing me how it is not an emergency call and I should not be dialling 999. Duh like at 3.30am when I'm suddenly woken up I'm going to do a search for the local police station. I say do a search cos directory enquiries seem neither use nor ornament. If I can understand them then they cannot understand me and twice last week while trying to find the number of a hairdresser they gave me the number of a betting shop and a hoover repair shop.
Anyway back to the police. They arrived within 20 minutes which was really good. When my neighbour was burgled it took them three hours to arrive and I got wrong for asking if they were the quick response unit.LOL

I was told there had been several reports last night of car break ins, given a crime number and once again told not to dial 999 again.

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I once rang my local police station because my upstairs neighbours were loudly fighting, and was asked to hang up and redial 999 as it was an incident in progress.

We dialed the local police station when the bloke across the road turned our corner at 60 miles an hour on two wheels and was so drunk when my husband pulled him out of the car  he couldn't stand up.  I told the police that he had been drinking and driving dangerously and that he was still very drunk. They more or less told me I was not qualified to decide whether he was driving dangerously or not and said that now he was out of the car they couldn't prove a thing so would not be taking it further. We took the bloke's car keys away for the night.

Last week, my friend's car was broken into and they nicked my new rucksack, all my food, a brand new flask and a gillet (sort of body warmer).  They broke a window, pulled the back seat forward and took it from the boot from the inside.  I rang 999 and was told by the hoity toity woman that I should have phoned my local police station!!!

Are they real or what?

BTW Great Post Lou

Were you in the car at the time?

No had gone for a walk.  I think we must have been watched from the bushes and they struck when were out of sight.

Well to be fair I don't personally think that's an emergency. Yes, it's rotten that you were robbed, but you weren't in any danger at the time.

I would have rang 999 too. Those robbers could still have been about and you could have been in danger.
