Is that an ironic post or a real nomination? I mean, personally, I'd be very happy to hear her sing Time to Say Goodbye.

That's a real nomination.  Doesn't it make you feel just a little sad when you hear it?

Not really, it's a bit swift for a sad song - and her voice doesn't do it for me.
Has anyone heard of Johnny Ray? He was a 1950s singer who was given to singing self-indulgent, weepy-type songs, one of which was called Cry.

It was a terrible song, but apparently he used to sob most of the way through it and the audience of (mainly) women would sob and howl! he was a huge heartthrob but to see him you would think he could anyone excited.

Pity Ronan Keating went and covered it.

I hadn't realized he had covered it Smurfy. I looked it up on U Tube. IMO Goo Goo dolls do it best. I have to say I'm not sure if I thought it belonged most on sad songs or sexy songs. It is such an intense song, it touches me.

Desperado by the Eagles. A really lonely song.

It's so weird; I was reading about No Doubt online and it said 'Iris' overtook 'Don't Speak' as the biggest ever radio hit in the US. Having not heard the song for ages, I heard it on the radio in Home Bargains barely an hour later, then came home and read this thread!

Two more songs I find sad ... Puff the magic dragon (I don't know who sings this) and Two little boys by Rolf Harris.

Puff The Magic Dragon is one of my very favourite songs. The version I like best is by Peter, Paul and Mary. It's very moving. I also love Michael Row The Boat A Shore - It makes me think of my childhood and I get all weepy.
