I have recently dabbled with Tesco and Asda but now returned to Sainsbury's.  I agree they tend to concentrate on their own brands but I find most of their own brands superior to everybody else's so I don't mind that.  I don't find that any of the fresh food from Tesco keeps well - particularly bread, milk and potatoes.  Locally I find the staff in Sainsbury's much better trained too.

How long do you expect these things to last?

I would rather freeze them and defrost what I need on a day-to-day basis (fine for bread and milk but not tried it with potatoes ) than have them made with preservatives.

I expect things to last until at least their best before date, and recently with stuff I've bought from Tesco that hasn't happened.

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

£1 in every £8 spent in the high street is spent at Tesco.

Ditto!  And I had potatoes that turned liquid in 3 days.

What annoys me about all supermarkets is that they stay open until 10 or 12 at night, but half the time they've run out of everything by about 8!

Morrisons closes at 8 as far as I'm aware.

True, but I don't shop there anymore. Our Tesco closes at midnight and the Asda at Smethwick closes at 10.

My local Somerfield is great for essentials shopping (when they have products on the shelves) however they are expensive on most things and you have to pay to park during the day which makes things even more expensive.

Morrisons here is open until 10pm but as smurfy says if you go in after 8pm they have nothing left. Tesco's is open 24 hours and I was told the best time to go for fruit and veg is when they are putting fresh out at 4am. Not much chance of me going shopping at that time though.

I visit my local 24 hours Tesco at 7:30am and can confirm it's a good time for fruit, veg and bread also.
