Will this put you off eating crisps?
« on: September 22, 2006, 10:53:55 am »
Half of UK children "drink" almost five litres of cooking oil every year as a result of their pack-a-day crisp habit, experts warn.

Nearly a fifth of children eat two packets of crisps per day, says the British Heart Foundation.

Its Food4Thought campaign aims to expose hidden salt, fat and sugar in common foods.

Pictures of a girl drinking cooking oil with the caption "What goes into crisps goes into you" will appear nationwide.

A typical 35g bag of crisps contains about two-and-a-half teaspoons of oil.

How can they 'drink' oil when they are eating it?

Also I wonder if it would put anyone off anything else if they knew how much oil/sugar/salt etc was in it.

Exactly. There's virtually no pre-prepared food that doesn't contain something bad for you.

WRONG!!!

There is very little saturated fat in Walkers crisps.  They are not even particularly high in any fat.  Their salt content is a little worrying, but to have a couple of bags a week will do you no harm whatsoever.  Real McCoys are another matter.  I would avoid these at all costs.

The original story speaks of children having two bags a day.  This is excessive and parents ought to take control.

I rarely eat crisps but when I do I'll go for the most enjoyable ones, not the ones with less this/less that fat.

With kids it's upto parents to educate them, but it seems as though Britain is a nation of chav mothers.
