This week there's an ITV drama called The Kindness of Strangers, about a woman who befriends a family but then tries to take over their lives. Now maybe I've missed something, but isn't this virtually the same plot of every ITV drama of the last five years? 'Someone slightly mad turns up, does mad things for no apparent reason, blah blah blah...' and as long as it stars Sarah Parish, Julie Graham or Clare Goose, on it goes.

I know ITV is generally seen as the downmarket channel, but I'm sure it wasn't always this way. The only decent drama they've had recently was The Moors Murders Story, and it's not as if they needed someone to produce a decent plot for that! Anyone agree - or am I being over-critical?

Who needs karma when you know you're great already?

The best drama of this sort I ever saw was Way Upstream by Alan Ayckbourn.  It begins like an episode of Terry and June and ends up like Nightmare on Elm street.

It probably was Smurfy. it is just that you have grown up and realised that the shows that kids and teenagers watch are generally piss poor.

ITV really does scrape the barrel. Say what you like about BBC but it doesn't always try to pander to the lowest common denominator.

I really hate the toss that ITV put on Sunday night at around 8ish, Heartbeat, Where the Heart Is etc, it's so depressing.  A few months back I was forced to watch an episode of Foyle's War at my in laws'.  I nearly slit my wrists!

The one exception has to be Midsomer Murders, John Nettles may be old enough to be my dad but I would!

I like Foyle's War. I think Foyle has a kind of smouldering sexuality. Midsommer Murders is just plain silly. More bodies than Friday 13th Part 65.

I agree Smurfy, there is a shortage of good TV dramas. Some of my favourites from the past have been:

Shine on Harvey Moon, The Biederbeck Trilogy, Our Friends in the North, GBH, Big Deal, The Gentle Touch, London's Burning and going back a long, long way - Within These Walls and The Secret Army.

I love a mixture of drama and humour - thus Dr Martin has been a recent favourite and Darling Buds of May a more distant one.

Quite right too. Kids should not be watching TV on a Saturday morning. They should be out playing fooftball/cricket/rounders/hopscotch etc
